About

Chris Urriola is a New York songwriter and producer whose music brings together alternative rock, post-punk, new wave and atmospheric electronic production. His songs combine direct, melodic writing with textured arrangements and dynamic contrasts between drive and restraint.

His debut LP, Solar, moves from the force of “Superman” to the inward melodies of “Royalton” and “Invincible,” drawing on surf rock, punk and synth-pop. It follows the Elemental and Illustrator EPs.

Chris has performed across North America, Europe and Asia since 2003. Illustrator is a full-band experience, bringing Chris Urriola's recordings to the stage with younger New York artists and longtime collaborators from the city's rock and jazz communities: alternative rock, post-punk, new wave. Chris also performs seated listening sets as In Another Room and acoustic sets as Chris Urriola - Acoustic. His music is released through BTA Records.

Current focus: Rules

“Rules” follows the tension between life's daily grind and the dreams that carry us toward our own salvation. Recorded at Metropolitan Sound in Brooklyn, the track was produced by Brian Scott Herman and engineered by John Epperly, with Matt Graff on drums, Greg Pasqua on guitar and Lisa Chiodo on backing vocals.

The recording reflects Chris Urriola's collaborative studio practice: songs begin with his writing and artistic direction, then expand through production and invited musicians who leave distinct performances on the record.
